About Tobacco Use
Residents of Amarillo and Potter County will be surveyed by phone this month to determine their knowledge, attitudes, values and behaviors toward tobacco use. The study is part of the Tobacco Free Amarillo project being funded by the Amarillo Hospital District.
Tobacco Free Amarillo is a comprehensive tobacco control program that will include activities in each of six component areas: schools, community, cessation, media, law enforcement and evaluation.
The telephone survey is overseen by Rebecca Robinson, Ph.D. at the Office for Health Program Evaluation at the West Texas A&M University Division of Nursing.
"We encourage the cooperation of everyone who receives a call as part of this survey," Dr. Robinson said. "The information we gain from this initial study will allow us to determine how effective the overall program has been when it is completed. Data from the program's evaluation will be compared to data from programs in other areas of the country that have been similarly evaluated."
